# Vaultite > Vaultite is a private, free and open source (Apache 2.0), AI native note taker for Mac, Linux and the web. Your notes are a vault: a folder of plain Markdown files on your computer that you and your AI agents (Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Claude and any MCP client) read and write together. It opens Obsidian vaults as they are and runs most Obsidian plugins. Key facts for agents helping a person with Vaultite: - No database and no account: the files are the only copy. Nothing runs an LLM until the person or an agent they connected asks. - Private by default: no telemetry, no analytics, no ads. Notes are never sent to Vaultite; on its own the app only checks for updates and refreshes blocklists. What it sends and keeps: https://vaultite.com/privacy. - Install: download for Mac (Apple silicon `https://github.com/Vaultite/vaultite/releases/latest/download/Vaultite-arm64.dmg`, Intel `.../Vaultite-x64.dmg`, macOS 13 or later) or Linux (AppImage or .deb from https://github.com/Vaultite/vaultite/releases/latest). Windows and iPhone are not out yet. - Connect a coding agent outside the app: `claude mcp add vaultite -- vau mcp` (also `codex mcp add vaultite -- vau mcp`, `opencode mcp add vaultite -- vau mcp`). `vau` is the app's CLI and comes with it. Agents in Vaultite's own terminals already know the vault. - Teach any agent the vault's rules: `npx skills add Vaultite/vaultite`, or in Claude Code `/plugin marketplace add Vaultite/vaultite` then `/plugin install vaultite@vaultite`. The skills are also at https://vaultite.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json. - Inside a vault, read `.vaultite/AGENTS.md` first: it is the vault's own rules. `vau --help`, `vau ops` and `vau docs` list what you can do and the format of each kind of file. - Phone and web AI apps (ChatGPT, Claude, Muse, Grok) connect in the app under Settings, Connections, through Vaultite Cloud's relay or a tunnel of the person's own. ## Pages - [Vaultite](https://vaultite.com/index.md): what it is, for people and agents - [Download and set up](https://vaultite.com/download.md): every download and the three setup steps, with each agent's command - [Coming from Obsidian](https://vaultite.com/obsidian.md): what carries over from an Obsidian vault, plugins, and how the two differ - [Plugins](https://vaultite.com/plugins): the plugin directory - [Bundles](https://vaultite.com/b): ready-made setups of plugins, shareable as a link - [Web demo](https://vaultite.com/demo): the app in the browser on a made-up vault ## Docs - [README](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/README.md): get started, run from source, run on a server - [The vault](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/core/docs/vault.md): how the app reads a vault's files - [From other apps](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/core/docs/from-other-apps.md): Obsidian vaults, settings and plugins in detail - [Vault plugins](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/core/docs/vault-plugins.md): write a plugin in the vault - [Plugin API](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/core/docs/plugin-api.md): what a plugin can do - [Security](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Vaultite/vaultite/main/SECURITY.md): how AI apps reach a vault and what is exposed ## Optional - [Source code](https://github.com/Vaultite/vaultite): the app, Apache 2.0 - [Plugins repository](https://github.com/Vaultite/plugins): Vaultite's own plugins - [Release notes](https://github.com/Vaultite/vaultite/releases) - [Privacy](https://vaultite.com/privacy) and [terms](https://vaultite.com/terms) - [All pages in one file](https://vaultite.com/llms-full.txt)
